Ruling in case challenging the status of Egypt's constitutional declaration expected at the end of the month

The status of Egypt's constitutional declaration with be delivered on 28 May, a court in Cairo announced Sunday.

The so-called constitutional declaration was implemented by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on 30 March 2011.

The declaration's validity was called into question by Asaad Heikal, a lawyer who claimed that some of its articles were added after a national referendum which approved it on 19 March.

The widely criticised Article 28, which says decisions of the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission are immune from appeal, was among the articles added to the declaration after the referendum.
