Coptic group Coalition of Egypt's Copts announced Saturday that it endorses Nasserist presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi in the upcoming presidential elections

Coalition of Egypt's Copts group has announced Saturday its endorsement of Nasserist presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi in Egypt's upcoming presidential elections.

The Coptic activism group has announced its endorsement of Sabbahi after having conducted meetings with him and other presidential candidates before making its decision.

Sabbahi was the last candidate to meet with the group on Friday, before they announced their decision.

The Coptic Church had earlier announced that it does not endorse any presidential candidates whether publicly or privately.

Presidential elections will be held on 23/24 May. If no one candidate attains more than 50 per cent of the vote, runoffs will be conducted on 16/17 June.

Egypt's first post-Mubarak elected president will be named on 21 June
