Muslim Brotherhood official website claims that the campaigns of rival candidates will back Morsi in run-offs

The Muslim Brotherhood have reported that the campaigns of rival candidates Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh and Hamdeen Sabbahi have announced that they will back the Brotherhood's candidate Mohamed Morsi in the runoffs.

According to the Brotherhood's official site, IkhwanOnline, the duo will back Morsi in order tounite againstMubarak-era minister Ahmed Shafiq, who will face Morsi in the runoffs, in a bed toensure that no members of the Mubarak regime (feloul) win the presidency.

According to the site, Alaa Hamza, an Abul-Fotouh supporter, wrote on his Facebook page that he will give his voice to Morsi.
"Even though I am sad that Abul-Fotouh lost, I will vote for Morsi, because now we are choosing between having a civil or a military leader and between the revolution and the counter-revolution. That's why I support Morsi."

Famous Egyptian director, Khaled Youssef, shared the same sentiment. He wrote on hisaccount on the microblogging website Twitter that he will also support Morsi in the runoffs.

Shafiq was former presidentMubarak's aviation minister and was appointed prime ministerby Mubarakin order to quash the 2011 uprising that led to Mubarak's ouster. Before long, protests demanded that Shafiq step down. A few weeks later, he resigned, only to announce later that he planned to run for presidency.

Many revolutionaries see him as part of the Mubarak regime and not fit to be the first post-revolution president since Mubarakappointed him to abort the revolution.

Others see in Shafiq a figure of stability.

Since news began filtering in on Thursday night that Shafiq may face Morsi in the runoffs, IkhwanOnline has upped its ante against Shafiq. It listsrevolutionary singer Hamza Namira as amongst those who haveannounced thatthey will back Morsi against Shafiq. The websiteincludesreportsfrom mothers of martyrswho say that anyone who votes for Shafiq will be killing their children again.
