Former MP Mohamed El-Omda says the controversial 14 June ruling by the country's higher constitutional court will be challenged by three appeals
Egypt's Administrative Court will hear appeals on Tuesday against the legal ruling that dissolved the country's parliament in mid-June, former independent MP Mohamed El-Omda said in a press statement.
The three separate appeals have being filed by former parliament speaker Saad El-Katatni of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and two former parliamentarians: independent Islamist Nezar Ghurab and the moderate-Islamist Wasat Party leader Essam Sultan.
On 14 June, the High Constitutional Court called for the dissolution of parliament after ruling that one third of seats in the lower house assigned to independents had been wrongfully won by candidates linked to political parties. The order was enforced by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces the following day.
El-Omda, the former deputy head of the parliament's constitutional and legislative committee, said negotiations had taken place between the committee and the Freedom and Justice Party's committee of legal affairs in the latter's downtown headquarters.
The two committees are jointly looking into a legal challenge that would throw out the constitutional court's ruling as being out-with its jurisdiction.
