Rebar retail and cement prices decreased in October

The price of building materials decreased in October compared to the month before, while still increasing on an annual basis.


The price of building materials decreased in October compared to the previous month, while still increasing on an overall annual basis. The rebar retail prices decreased in October by 4 per cent compared to September and Cement prices went down by 1.25 per cent during the same period. Prices of other construction materials such as brick, wood, sand and glass remained stable, according to the monthly report on main construction materials issued today by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

However, all retail prices of construction materials increased this October compared to October 2009. Steel rebar experienced the highest increase among the materials, making a 25.7 per cent leap in just one year. Cement prices also increased during the year, though by a much lower rate, varying between 2 and 6 per cent. Of all construction materials, only marble and plastic water pipes experienced a price decrease this year.
