Hurghada Airport authorities decided on Monday to use civil workers to fill in for low-ranking police officers and security guards who are on strike.

Low-ranking police officers say they are protesting peacefully to request the interior ministry cancel the decision to transfer General Sameh Outta, port security manager at Hurghada Airport, to the security directorate. They want to keep the General in his post at the airport.

The general manager of the Hurghada Airport, Major General Samy Abdel-Moneim, announced that civilian workers have been used to fill in gaps of low-ranking police officers and security officials under police officer supervision to continue the security work inside the airport.

Police officers in charge of the ports are not striking or protesting and are working, Abdel-Moneim noted.

The Major General also assured that the control tower has not been affected, citing that Hurghada Airport successfully received 13 thousand tourists on board 84 planes from various parts of the world.

On Sunday the interior ministry witnessed the second largest reshuffle of employees in its history and the first since President Morsi was inaugurated on 28 June.
