Fencer Alaaeldin Abouelkassem apologises following Egypt’s defeat in the Men’s Team Foil round of 16

Egypt’s silver medallist Alaaeldin Abouelkassem apologised to fans after the team lost to Great Britain in the Men’s Team Foul round of 16 on Sunday.

Britain knocked out Egypt with a 45-33 win, denying Abouelkassem the chance to collect a second medal after he won the silver in the men’s individual foil last week.

“I’m sorry guys you were better than me today, I won’t give excuses, but I promise to keep training and working hard to deserve your support,” Abouelkassem said on Twitter.

Abouelkassem is the only Egyptian athlete to have a won medal at the London Games so far.

He clinched the silver after beating China's Sheng Leii 15-13 in the final of the men’s individual foil.
