Three suspected of Rafah clashes apprehended with guns and drugs as security forces crackdown on militant activity in the Sinai enters ninth day, says military source

Three suspects allegedly involved in the recent clashes between armed groups and Egypt’s security forces in Rafah have been apprehended, as "Operation Eagle" enters its ninth day in the Sinai, a security source told Al-Ahram Arabic Language news website, Thursday.

The three were reportedly caught with a number of machine guns and half a ton of cannabis drug in their possession, the source added.

The anonymous official reiterated that the military-led operation will continue until Sinai is purged of militant activity, pointing to the campaign’s success in managing to bomb known terrorist areas and criminal hideouts.

A crackdown on militants in the Sinai Peninsula has been ongoing since Wednesday last week, after armed groups opened fire on the Egypt-Gaza border killing 16 soldiers and injuring seven others on 5 August.
