Sports minister awards Olympic silver medal winning wrestler Karam Gaber LE750,000 after media reports that he was considering representing Qatar at 2016 Games

Sports Minister El-Amry Farouk has awarded Karam Gaber, who won a wrestling silver medal at the recent London Olympics, LE750,000 as a reward for his accomplishment.

It was recently reported that Egypt's greatest wrestler and Olympian of all time could represent Qatar at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil but Thursday’s meeting with Egypt sports minister makes this unlikely.

The 32-year-old Greco-Roman wrestler won the Olympic silver medal in the men's 84kg division after losing to Russia's Alan Khugaev in the final. He clinched the 96kg gold at the 2004 Athens Games.

Gaber won Egypt's second medal in London after fencer Alaaeldin Abouelkassem's silver medal.
