Clashes continue outside the US embassy in Cairo, spreading to Tahrir Square as well, Thursday morning with teargas and rocks being exchanged between protesters and security forces.

Police vehicles have been attempting to disperse protesters from the area near the embassy.

Renewed clashes erupted late Wednesday outside the US embassy as around 200 protesters and Central Security Forces (CFS) threw stones at each other.

Protests began late Tuesday when thousands of Muslims gathered at the embassy to condemn a film which they deemed offensive to Islam and the Prophet Mohamed.

Some of the protesters – most of whom are young men without beards, unlike many of the protesters on Tuesday – are also hurling petrol bombs at the CFS, who replied with tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

According to official figures released on Thursday morning, 13 people have been injured at the clashes since Tuesday, none of them seriously.
