Around 20 members of Ultras Ahlawy stormed an Ahly club headquarter in Nasr City district, Cairo, on Sunday to continue their protests over plans to start the Egyptian Premier League next month.

“The club members ran away after some Ultras fans stormed the club’s headquarters during tonight’s training session,” Ahly said in a statement on their official website.

Ahram’s Arabic-language sports website said Ahly’s right-back Ahmed Sedik was "severely beaten" by the furious fans, who want domestic football activities to remain suspended until the perpetrators of February’s Port Said disaster are brought to justice. Hundreds of the fans laid siege to the club for several hours.

Ahly’s football club have been holding their training sessions in Nasr City after their usual venue in Al-Gezira district was invaded by Ultras Ahlawy members early this month.

The fans also attacked the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) headquarters in an unprecedented wave of violence from soccer fans in the country.

The EFA is planning to start the new Premier League season on 17 October after the previous edition was called off in the wake of the Port Said tragedy, which left over 70 fans dead after Masry supporters stormed the pitch to confront Ahly’s visiting contingent in an ill-tempered league game on 2 February.

Ahly played the first competitive game in local competitions since the disaster when they beat ENPPI 2-1 in the Egyptian Super Cup, the annual curtain-raiser of the season, on 9 September.

The match was preceded by threats from Ultras Ahlawy to storm the Egyptian Army Stadium in Alexandria but they backtracked on their stance few hours before kick-off.
