Squash: Egyptians eye fourth successive US Open triumph

Egyptian quartet Shabana, Ashour, El-Shorbagy and Darwish will feature in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Squash US Open


Four Egyptian squash players will play in the quarter-final of the 2012 Delaware Investments U.S. Open, which will take place in Philadelphia, United States between from October 6-12.

Eighth-seeded Mohamed El-Shorbagy will face Englishman James Willstrop, the world no. 1, while fifth-seeded Karim Darwish will take on world no. 3 Gregory Gaultier of France.

Fourth-seeded Ramy Ashour and seventh Amr Shabana will be facing England’s Peter Barker, world no. 6, and Nick Matthew, world no. 2, respectively.

“A good match today against flying machine Tarek momen glad to win ,now through to the quarter final,” Ashour tweeted early Tuesday after his 3-0 win over compatriot Tarek Momen.

Momen is among five other Egyptians - Omar Abdel Aziz, Hisham Mohd Ashour, Karim Abdel Gawad and Omar Mosaad - who could not qualify for the quarterfinal after losing in the first two rounds.

Egyptians are eyeing a fourth consecutive US Open triumph, having won the title in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
