A European aid vessel has been granted permission by Egyptian authorities to dock in Al Arish port before being transported to Rafah border crossing Thursday evening.
Egyptian authorities have agreed to allow Al Amal, a European aid ship, to dock in Al Arish port on Thursday morning.
The vessel arrived from Libya three days ago and has since been waiting for permission to dock.
A prominent security source said that the aid equipment would be transported to the Rafah border crossing before passing into Gaza on Thursday evening. He also stated that Egypt's decision to allow the vessel to dock came after several phone calls between officials in both Egypt and Libya.
Al Amal includes 30 vehicles and 95 tonnes of European aid, as well as European and Arab activists. The vessel did not inform or get permission to dock in the port from officials in Egypt prior to its arrival.
General Gamal Abdel Maksoud, Head of Arish Port, said that the port's surveillance tower was shocked to see the ship bearing towards the port.
Most attempts to break the Gaza siege via Egypt's border were unsuccessful.
