Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, inaugurated a partly EU-funded Crisis Room with Arab League Secretary General, Nabil El-Arabi, on Tuesday to perform effective crisis management.

The launch of The Crisis Management Division and early warning systems at the Arab League headquarters is set to communicate with member states and regional and international organisations on issues and crises of concern to the Arab countries.

The crisis management initiative uses new technologies in the early detection of crises, as mentioned in the introductory statement of the division.

Funded by the EU's Instrument for Stability, the project will mount to 1.9 million euros.

The project is to analyze information and prepare periodic reports on the evolution of crises and their repercussions on the Arab region.

"What we see today is the living example of the kind of collaboration that I want to see more of as we develop and deepen our relationship with the League of Arab States," Ashton stated on Tuesday.


The statement added it will also stand as an attempt to strengthen the capacity of the Secretariat and other member states through specialized training programs in cooperation with other UN bodies.
