Ahly star Mohamed Abou-Treika will retire from football after Saturday's anticipated match against Tunisia's Espernace in the African Champions League final, Egypt former coach Hassan Shehata announced late Friday.

"I think that Esperance match will be the final for Abou-Treika," Shehata, who is currently in charge of Qatari side Al-Arabi, told Qatari sports Channel Al-Kass.

"Despite the fact that he still has a lot to deliver, Abou Treika is satisfied with his achievements. He will announce his retirement after the Champions League final," concluded the veteran coach.

Shehata has a strong relationship with the 34-year old player who played a prominent role in the coach's achievement steering the Pharaohs to three successive African Nations Cup triumphs in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Abou-Treika has been Ahly’s most prominent star since joining the club from Tersana in 2004. He led the club to win seven Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cup triumphs and three African Champions League wins among other minor accolades.

The Cairo giants are expected to face a big challenge from the Tunisian side after a depressing 1-1 home draw in Alexandria in the first leg.

Esperance are looking to lift the trophy for the second time in a row and third overall.
