Egypt: Possible cabinet reshuffle, resignation in hours

Today's cabinet meeting has been postponed, triggering speculation that a cabinet reshuffle or complete resignation may be imminent


A cabinet reshuffle is expected soon, to include the appointment of four new ministers and the sacking of others. Speculation is also rife that the new government could resign as a result of demands laid out by Tahrir square protestors yesterday.

After the formation of the current cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik, four ministrial posts remain vacant - those of the ministries of education, information, tourism and culture.

A cabinet meeting was scheduled for this morning has been postponed and a press conference announced instead at 3pm.
