Algeria strengthen their squad before the Nations Cup continue as French-born Algerian defender Faouzi Ghoulam decides to play for the Fennecs
After Parma striker Ishak Belfodilto agreed to play for the Algerian national team,French-born Algerian fullback Faouzi Ghoulam has also decided to play for Algeria.
According to French magazine France Football, the 21-year-old, who played for the French U-23 team, has made his choice after a meeting with Algerian FA president Mohamed Raouraoua last week.
Ghoulam produced a string of strong performances with Saint Etienne this season, which helped his team to a current third place in the Ligue 1 with 25 points, only one point behind leaders Paris Saint Germain.
Algeria, who were drawn in Group D of next year’s African Cup of Nations alongside Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Togo, are looking to strengthen their squad before the continental competition.
Reims fullback Aissa Mandi and Granada midfielder Yacine Brahimi are also in Halilhodzic's radar.
