The eight million Egyptians living abroad are set to participate in the constitutional referendum next week, ahead of local polls expected across Egypt on 15 December

Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Tuesday that Egyptians living abroad will vote on Egypt's draft constitution between 8 - 11 December.

The ministry spokesman confirmed that Egypt's embassies and consulates will extend their opening hours to 8am -8pm so that people can vote in the referendum before and after work.

The draft constitution was approved by the president on Saturday: Egyptians are expected to head to the polls on 15 December.

However the details of the voting process have yet to be confirmed as the judges, who usually supervise the polling stations, have gone on strike in reaction to Morsi's decree which was issued on 22 November.

The number of Egyptians living abroad is estimated to be around eight million, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued in 2012.

However, number of expat participants in last year's presidential elections runoff was around 300,000 voters.
