Cairo-based German mission is back to normal after securing its premises, official source confirms; blast threat follows August bomb attack by Egyptian man enraged with right-wing German rallies caricaturing Prophet Mohammed
A bomb scare at the German embassy in Cairo, Monday morning, was a false alarm, an official source at the mission told Ahram Online.
The embassy received a security notice at around 9am, accordingly the offices were evacuated and security procedures taken.
"At around 11 am we were back in our offices as it turned out to be nothing," the source confirmed.
The embassy have yet to publish an official statement regarding the incident. However, the official source told Ahram Online that "the embassy has to deal with every threat as a real threat no matter how trivial it might seem,"
Last August an Egyptian man was arrested and referred to the general-prosecutor for launching four homemade nail bombs into the grounds of the German mission and for vandalising the entrance of the building with a hammer.
The man reportedly staged the attack after reading an Egyptian newspaper article detailing a German right-wing protest during which participants paraded caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in front of a German mosque.
