Cultural entrepreneur had preferred to remain a 'normal Egyptian'

Mohamed Abdel Moneim El Sawy, the founder of the cultural centre El Sawy Culturewheel, was appointed minister of culture on Sunday.

Earlier, in an interview with Ahram Online (article titled: "Post-Revolution El Sawy Culturewheel is stronger than ever,") he said that he was not interested in the position: "I would rather enjoy my freedom as a normal Egyptian." He did, however, express interest in the ministry of education.

The appointment of El Sawy has received mixed reactions from artists in many fields.
