Ahly defender Wael Gomaa has extended his stay at the club he joined 13 years ago for two more seasons.

“Gomaa has shown an example of loyalty to Ahly as he agreed on reducing his benefits 50 per cent, same as Mohamed Abou-Treika [midfielder] did,” reads a statement published on the club’s official website.

The 37-year-old solid defender who collected a series of local and global trophies with the Red Devils including five CAF Champions League titles and four Africa Super Cups, was named best African defender four times 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

“Negotiations with Gomaa took just few minutes as he agreed on any conditions the club would list and he expressed real understanding to the club’s and the country’s circumstances,” Ahly Football Director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told Ahly website.

All Egyptian clubs were financially affected by the stoppage of the Egyptian competitions since last February after Port Said stadium's bloody clashes that left 72 Ahly fans dead and hundreds injured.
