America and Germany talking about ways to put financial pressure on Muammar Gaddafi
U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is in Germany for talks on the global economy and ways to put financial pressure on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Geithner is slated to meet Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle in Berlin on Tuesday after talks with European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and Bundesbank President Axel Weber in Frankfurt.
President Barack Obama has called Gadhafi's use of force against a three-week uprising "unacceptable." Already, the U.S., Germany and other nations have frozen the assets of Gadhafi and his family, and the EU has also issued travel bans and an asset freeze against senior Libyan officials.
Geithner will also discuss efforts to reform the international financial system.
