Egypt's public-sector workforce rose 2% in 2012/13: CAPMAS

Number of employees in Egypt's government sector increased by 2 percent to 5.545 million in 2012/13 fiscal year, state-run statistics agency CAPMAS reported Tuesday



The number of employees in the government sector increased by 2 percent in 2012/13 to reach 5.545 million, compared to 5.439 million one year earlier.

According to government statistics agency CAPMAS, the increase was concentrated in the education sector, where the number of employees reached 1.854 million – 35.5 percent higher than last year.

The number of male employees increased by 2.3 percent to 4 million, while the number of female employees increased by only 1 percent to 1.524 million during the same period, CAPMAS reported.

The number of employees in public enterprises, meanwhile, increased by 3.1 percent.

In 2011/12, the number of public employees decreased by 2.9 percent.
