Supporters of now-deposed Mohamed Morsi head to Maspero building, reportedly shooting birdshot at rival groups of demonstrators

Hundreds of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi marched down 6 October Bridge near Tahrir Square on Friday evening, heading away from Tahrir to the Egyptian state television and radio headquarters in downtown Cairo, known as the Maspero building.

Eyewitnesses told Ahram Online that some of the Islamist protesters fired shots at anti-Morsi protesters from the bridge, leading to injuries.

According to Ahram Arabic, army forces were not present at the clashes.

Egypt’s liberal and leftist coalition, the National Salvation Front, had earlier called for protests on Friday to protect the achievements of 30 June, a day of mass anti-Morsi protests which led to the military removal of the president.

Friday saw a number of demonstrations by pro-Morsi groups in cities around Egypt, including several in Cairo.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the deposed president are still holding a sit-in at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in northern Cairo denouncing what they called a “coup d’etat.”
