Muslim Brotherhood supporters allege they are being blocked in Nasr City from monitoring the parliamentary elections
Supporters of Manal Aboul-Hassan, Muslim Brotherhood candidate for the Heliopolis/Nasr City district, complained that their monitors have not been allowed into “several voting stations”.
“We arrived here at six o’clock and tried to get the monitors in, but we were told by the supervisors of the voting stations that there are no spaces left for more monitors,” said Mohamed Ali, one of Aboul-Hassan’s supporters.
Speaking to Ahram Online at a voting station established on Al-Nasr Road in Nasr City, the angry Mohamed said that Aboul-Hassan’s supporters have also been denied access into other voting stations. “This is happening in several stations, if not most stations in this district,” he said.
Mohamed alleged that the voting stations are “packed with monitors for Sameh Fahmi,” Aboul-Hassan’s rival. “They got them in before six o’clock and this is not legal. We were all supposed to get in at eight o’clock,” Mohamed said.
Ahram Online was denied access to the voting station and no officials agreed to comment on the complaints made by Aboul-Hassan’s supporters.
“Whatever they do we will persist, and sooner or later, whether they like it or not, the rule of Islam will reign over Egypt. It is the Muslim Brotherhood who will get it to rule,” Mohamed said.
