Egyptian govt coordinates Burns' visit to the head of the Brotherhood's political arm, Saad El-Katatni, in jail on charges of inciting murder

US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns plans to visit detained head of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, Saad El-Katatni, on Monday.

The visit will take place in coordination with the Egyptian authorities and government, according to state-run Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

El-Katatni was arrested among other Islamist leaders a day after the popularly-backed military removed elected president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.

On Wednesday a court renewed the 15-day detention period for El-Katatni and several Brotherhood leaders in Tora Prison pending investigations into charges of inciting the killing of protesters.

Burns, along with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed and Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Attiyah, visited the Brotherhood's second-man, Khairat El-Shatar in Tora Prison on Sunday night.

The trilateral delegation aimed to present El-Shater with an initiative to break the political deadlock and violence cycle that has engulfed the country since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi.
