Creativity Front calls off conference on political developments in Egypt scheduled for Tuesday due to time conflict

Previously announced conference aimed at discussing Egyptian current political events has been cancelled, the Egyptian Creativity Front said.

The event was scheduled for Tuesday at 1pm.

In a statement, the Egyptian Creativity Front deemed it necessary to cancel the conference to avoid conflict with a press conference scheduled by the Ministry of Culture on the same day at 3pm.

A number of leading Egyptian artists and intellectuals, joined by representatives of several political currents, were expected to attend the conference co-organised by the National Salvation Front.

Egyptian Creativity Front was launched in January 2012 by a number of artists and intellectuals. Prominent film producer Mohamed El-Adl is one of the co-founders. The Front includes Egyptian actors, visual artists, musicians, filmmakers and literary figures.

At the time of its establishment, the prime aim of the Front was to face what the members perceived to be a fight against pressure from Islamists to limit freedom of expression.

Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July, the group has continued to cast light on all events that might affect Egypt socially and culturally.
