Squash: Three out of six Egyptians advance to World Championship quarters

Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour and Mohamed Elshorbagy reach the quarterfinals of the World Squash Championship on Wednesday


Egyptian trio Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour and Mohamed ElShorbagy made it to the World Squash Championship quarters in Manchester but three other Egyptians exited the tournament on Wednesday.

Reigning world champion Ashour remained unbeaten at the National Squash Centre after defeating Australia's Cameron Pilley 3-1. He lost the first game 9-11 but stormed back to win three successive games 11-8, 11-4 and 12-10.

Four-time champion Shabana also went through following a 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-9) victory over Colombia's Miguel Angel Rodriguez Rodriguez in 37 minutes while ElShorbagy eliminated Germany'sSimon Rosner with another comfortable 3-0 win.

Omar Mosaad, Karim Darwish and Tarek Momen were not as lucky as their compatriots.

Mosaad slumped to a 3-1 loss to Englishman Nick Matthew, fifth-seed Darwish suffered a 3-2 defeat by Daryl Selby after fighting bravely in a tough contest and Momen lost 3-0 to Frenchman Gregory Gaultier.
