Armed forces report they have demolished 61 houses that belonged to Islamist militants

The Egyptian armed forces killed three Islamist militants in a security operative in Sinai on Wednesday, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

A military spokesman stated that it had also seized a number of weapons, including machine guns, RPGs and homemade grenades.

The armed forces, supported by police personnel, also torched four cars that did not have licence plates or registration papers, army spokesman Ahmed Ali stated on Thursday via his official Facebook page.

Sixty-one houses have also been destroyed that, according to Ali, belonged to militants.

Sinai has witnessed attacks on police and army personnel on an almost daily basis in response to the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July. Dozens of members of the security forces have been killed in the violence.

Attempts by the military to crackdown on militants in the peninsula have also killed dozens of Islamist militants.
