State Council considers 29 petitions for the dissolution of Egypt’s notorious NDP amid pressures from protesters for a quick resolution

Roughly 100 members of Peace Party staged a demonstration on Saturday opposite the Egyptian State Council building to pressure for a ruling to dismantle the National Democratic Party.

A petition has been filed by former MP and Editor in Chief of Al-Esbou, Mostafa Bakry to dismantle the party, although the head of the Peace Party, Ahmed El-Fadaly, states he has been requesting the dismantling of the NDP since 2005.

On 29 March the court will consider another 29 requests for the dismantling of the NDP.

The NDP, under ousted President Mubarak’s dictatorship, monopolised Egypt’s politics for 30+ years.
