Port Said club Masry to play league games at military stadium in Suez

In a bid to avoid stirring fresh tensions, the Egyptian Football Association decides to stage all the Premier League games of Port Said-based club Masry in Suez

Port Said-based club Masry will play all their Egyptian Premier League games at a military-owned stadium in the northern city of Suez, the country's football association announced on Tuesday.

The decision comes to stave off any fresh tensions between Masry and supporters of Ahly, who vowed more than once "not to allow Masry to come to Cairo" following the February 2012 Port Said disaster.

Egypt's worst-ever football tragedy, which occurred in a league game between Ahly and Masry, left over 70 Ahly fans dead and ignited an off-field animosity between the supporters of the two bitter rivals.

The home and away fixtures of Masry, who were supposed to face Zamalek in Cairo in their first league game later this month, will all take place in Suez.

The matches of Ahly and Zamalek will be played at the Air Defence or Military Production Stadiums, the EFA said. Both venues are also owned by the military.

The first half of the season will be played behind closed doors. The Premier League, which was cancelled in the past two seasons, is scheduled to kick off on 24 December.
