Ismaily defeat promoted Qanah 2-1, Saleh Gomaa salvages a draw for ENPPI against Arab Contractors in their opening games of the Egyptian Premier League

Ghanaian striker John Antwi scored twice, including a last-gasp goal, to help Ismaily open their Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over promoted Qanah on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old put Ismaily ahead with a far-post header on 33 minutes after making the most of a pinpoint cross from new signing Mohamed Farouk 'Zika', whom the club signed after recording a rare transfer victory over bitter rivals Ahly.

Dodji equalised for Qanah in the 81st minute but Antwi gave Ismaily all three points with another header in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Egypt's promising midfielder Saleh Gomaa salvaged a 1-1 draw for ENPPI against Arab Contractors.

Contractors took an 11th-minute lead but a red card for Mahmoud Ezzat cost them their advantage, with Gomaa finding the net seven minutes past the hour mark to secure a share of spoils.

Haras El-Hodoud suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by promoted Minya while Ittihad El-Shorta came from behind to beat Egypt Cup winners-up Wadi Degla 2-1, thanks to a brace from striker Khaled Qamar.
