Food and medical supplies are on their way to South Sudan to help stave off a growing humanitarian crisis in the newly-established nation

Egypt has sent humanitarian aid to South Sudan upon the orders of army chief and defence minister Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

A C130 military plane set off from an Egyptian military base on Friday morning carrying eight tonnes of food and medical supplies.

Fighting erupted in South Sudan on Sunday between rival factions of soldiers after a failed coup attempt against President Kiir.
