Egypt's annual headline inflation eased in December to 12.5 percent down from 14.2 percent in the year leading up to November, figures released by the state statistical agency CAPMAS on Thursday.
In November, head of CAPMAS Abu Bakr Al-Gendy described the rise in inflation as the highest swell since January 2010.
On monthly basis, the overall inflation dropped 1.3 percent in December due to a drop in the prices of vegetables and fruits, particularly tomatoes, potatoes and oranges, although prices for vegetables and fruits surged in 2013.
Poultry, meat, fish and seafood also rose significantly for the year, as well as the cost of vehicles and transportation fees.
