April 6 Youth Movement plans to hold a rally outside a police training institute in south Cairo demanding freedom for two of its founders and a prominent 25 January activistat their appeal hearing on Monday.

The youth movement said that it will escalate its protests if the three, April 6 founder Ahmed Maher, group member Mohamed Adel and prominent activist Ahmed Douma, are not freed

They were sentenced on 22 December to three years in jail and a LE50,000 fine for organising unauthorised protests and assaulting police officers outside a Cairo court where Maher was handing himself in for questioning.

The activists are being held by an "autocratic regime" and the protests will demand our rights and freedoms, group spokesperson Mohamed Kamal told Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

The group will hold further protests on the third anniversary of the January 25 uprising, he added. They will be organised by revolutionary movements and will not include the Muslim Brotherhood.

April 6 has distributed almost two million flyers in Cairo and other cities to encourage participation in the anniversary protests, Kamal said.
