In an effort to support independent filmmakers in the region, Canon Middle East launches a partnership with famed Egyptian actor, producer and director Khaled Aboul-Naga

Canon Middle East announced earlier this week that the imaging solutions giant is partnering with multi-talented and award-winning artist Khaled Aboul-Naga, naming him Canon ambassador for the Middle East.

In line with the partnership, Aboul-Naga commits to using Canon's digital equipment for his upcoming projects. In addition to offering significant mobility and freedom from using complicated and oversized lighting with their low-light capabilities, Canon's cameras have enabled even those filmmakers operating on tight budgets to produce HD video.

Canon Middle East Managing Director Anurag Agrawal commended Aboul-Naga for his achievements across various media and genres and elaborated on the partnership's intention to support the local filmmaking industry.

"Canon and Khaled share a passion for using digital technology to unlock a new world of opportunities for aspiring filmmakers and the partnership is a reflection of our aligned values and commitment to the industry," says Agrawal.

The partnership spotlights Canon's strategy of fostering close relationships with filmmakers and exercising its corporate social responsibility, according to the official press release.

Canon Middle East's strategy includes diversifying into professional cinematography and related business domains.

"We believe this partnership will be a catalyst for a new burst of creative content to emerge from the region's independent filmmaking industry," Agrawal continues.

Aboul-Naga's initiative, the Independent Talents of Egypt and Arab World Model (I-Team-Cairo), which provides training and equipment to promising filmmakers from the region, will be supported by Canon Middle East under the partnership.

The partnership also entails a series of educational workshops which will be delivered by Aboul-Naga.

Aboul-Naga expressed his ardent belief in the potential impact of the Canon DSLR cameras on the Middle East's filmmaking industry. "The evolution of technology in filmmaking has led to a revolution in the industry," the actor says.

"Rather than being overwhelmed by the amount of content being produced, previously undiscovered talent and creativity will have the ability to shine and catch the attention of the local and global industry," Aboul-Naga continues.

This January marks the three-year anniversary of the release of Microphone, directed by Ahmed Abdalla and co-produced by Aboul-Naga. The multiple award-winning film was the first feature to be shot entirely using Canon 7D DSLR Cameras.
