CAPMAS links inflation to hikes in food prices

Egypt’s annual urban inflation rose to 11.4 percent recording 142.4 points, according to a statement by the state statistics body CAPMAS on Monday.

According to CAPMAS, the urban consumer price index (CPI) grew 1.4 percent compared to December 2013.

The headline CPI has eased to 12.2 percent year-on-year registering 145 points, while on monthly basis it rose 1.6 percent.

CAPMAS attributed the inflation to the hike in food prices, including vegetables (up 9.4 percent), dairy and eggs (up 4.4 percent) and poultry and meat (up 2.8 percent).
