Haile Gebrselassie to pace London Marathon
AP, Monday 17 Feb 2014

Haile Gebrselassie will pace a world-record attempt at the London Marathon in April.

Race organizers say the 40-year-old Gebrselassie, who twice broke the world record, will lead the men's elite field to the 30 kilometer (18 1/2-mile) mark.

Race director Hugh Brasher says on Monday, ''Haile is an icon of distance running ... and we can't think of anyone better to set our elite men up for a crack at the world marathon record.''

Brasher adds ''with Haile pacing and four of the fastest marathon runners in history in the race, there's a real chance we will see something special.''

The field includes Kenya's Wilson Kipsang, who set the current record of 2 hours, 3 minutes, 23 seconds in the Berlin Marathon in September.
