On 2 May, a concert at the Cairo Opera House will include a large array of compositions from Georgia and Egypt along with works from the Western classical repertoire
On Friday, 2 May, the Cairo Opera House Small Hall will feature a large repertoire of classical music, with an emphasis on composers from Georgia and Egypt.
The evening is organised on the initiative of Elena Dzamashvili, honoured artist of Georgia and Cairo Conservatory professor.
Along with Dzamashvili, the concert will include a number of Egyptian renowned musicians: violinists Hassan Sharara and Munir Nasr Eldin, violist Rasha Yehia, cellist Ashraf Sharara, pianist Iman Samy, soprano Dina Iskander, mezzo-soprano Jolie Faizy and baritone Gaber El-Beltagy. They will be also joined by David Edgar on piano.
From Georgian composers, the evening will feature compositions by Bidzina Kvernadze (1928-2010), Zakaria Paliashvili (1871-1933), Aleksandr Machavariani (1913–1995), Alexander Toradze (born 1952) and Vaja Azarashvili (born 1936). Egyptian composers will be represented through works by Sayed Darwish and Rageh Daoud, in addition to a collection of Arabic songs from Fairuz's repertoire.
From the Western repertoire, the evening will include several compositions, among them Chopin's Valse Op 34, Edward Elgar's “Love’s Greeting,” Saint-Saëns' “The Swan,” Schumann's “Marchenbilder,” and Bizet's “Habanera” from the opera Carmen.
