Hamdi is one of the top performer players in the Egyptian Premier League this season. The 23-year old Zamalek defender started the season on the bench but managed to settle in at the start of the year following the departure of Ali Gabr to West Bromwich Albion.

El-Wench, the crane in Arabic in reference to his power, turned to be a key player for the Whites and helped them claim Egypt's title.

His impressive form was rewarded as he got his first ever international call in May, during Egypt's last preparatory camp for the World Cup.

He made his international debut against Kuwait on 26 May and that was enough to convince Hector Cuper to book him a ticket for Russia.

Hamdi is not likely to earn a place in Cuper's starting line-up as he is considered a fourth-choice behind Ahmed Hegazi, Ali Gabr and Saad Samir but he will surely be ready to grab his chance if it comes.
