The Orchard Keepers (2014) follows two Bedouins in a Sinai oasis trying to keep their orchard alive, amidst the country’s political upheaval that serves as a backdrop to the story.
The story is also intertwined with Dunne’s personal life, as she learns about the sturdy orchard tree.
The screening is accompanied by a book that presents Dunne’s sketches and photography work from her time in Sinai.
Dunne is an Irish artist based in Cairo, and professor of photography at the German University in Cairo. Her work merges anthropology and ecology with visual art.
The Orchard Keepers is her first film and, screened in over 20 film festivals, has won the first prize at Ethno Film in Croatia.
Author and journalist Maria Golia will introduce the film and lead a Q&A session after the screening.
