The Higher Administrative Court has ruled in favour of allowing converted Muslims who have reverted back to Christianity to include their religion on their identity cards.

Egyptian identity cards include religion. However, since Egypt only recognizes Islam, Christianity and Judaism, other beliefs are not registered on these cards. The Bahais of Egypt have faced the problem of having to lie about their religion to acquire government-issued, identification documents. In 2009 the ministry of interior released a decree amending the law to allow those who do not belong to the three recognized religions to issue identification documents leaving the religion slot blank. This also applied to Christians who had converted to Islam and reverted back to Christianity.

However, many of the reverted Christians objected that they were not allowed to include their religion in their identification documents as was possible before.
