The 6th of April Movement-the Democratic Front have held the first internal elections since the youth movement was established in 2008.
The elections were supervised by an unofficial judicial committee made up of five young judges, the movement announced.
The group released a statement saying that the elections were the first step in enforcing democracy in Egypt's various political entities and will help the birth of a new generation ready to lead the nation along a democratic path that respects differences of opinion and fair competition.
The movement invited 63 officials and authorities to monitor the elections, including the military council, the council of ministers, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, deputy prime minister, Ali ElSelmy, the revolutionary youth coalition and the National Association for Change.
A plethora of political figures were also invited, including presidential candidates such as Hamdeen Sabahi, Ayman Nour, Bothaina Kamal, Hisham El Bastawiy and Abdalla Meshel.
The 6th of April youth movement is considered to be one of the leading players in the January 25 revolution.
