Israeli military sources have warned that there is a possibility that the Israeli-Syrian border will turn into a ongoing conflict zone between Palestinian refugees and the Israeli army.

Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Sunday night that according to sources, there are clear indications that the Palestinian diaspora youth have chosen the Syrian borders as a conflict front with Israel, saying that this scenario is considered “horrifying” to Israel.

The sources explained the “nightmare” Israel fears is that its borders with Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon become areas of confrontation with crowds of Palestinian refugees. They stressed that a “border intifada” would completely paralyse the army because Israel will then have to send more troops to the borders to prevent them being breached.

The sources also viewed the Jordanian border as the main danger to Israel due to its length and sensitive status. They explained that the border with Jordan is very close to important cities and strategic facilities in Israel.

The sources stressed that Israel is very grateful for the role which the Jordanian government is playing by preventing the breaching of the border. However, if the Jordanian government does not cooperate with Israel in keeping the protesters from reaching the borders, this will mean that even if all infantry brigades are stationed at the border, the security of the borders will not be guaranteed.
