Explosive device goes off outside Upper Egyptian university after police disperse protesting students; no injuries reported

An explosive device detonated Tuesday afternoon at Assiut University during a protest held by students in favour of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website

The device exploded after the protest was dispersed by police, a security source in the interior ministry told Al-Ahram. No injuries were reported.

At least 250 pro-Morsi students gathered outside the campus and tried to block the road on Tuesday afternoon.

The source added that the student protesters shot fireworks at security forces, who fired tear gas to disperse the demonstration.
