Egypt's general prosecution has postponed to 5 June the detention renewal session of Al Jazeera journalist Abdullah El-Shamy and 300 other co-defendants, according to Ahram Online's reporter.

The prosecution will meet on Thursday to decide whether El-Shamy is to be released or his detention renewed.

El-Shamy was arrested while covering the violent dispersal of the pro-Mohamed Morsi protest camp held in Cairo's Rabaa Al-Adaweya square last August. He has been held in continually renewed detention since, his case not yet referred to court.

El-Shamy has lost a third of his weight as a result of an ongoing hunger strike he initiated on 21 January, more than 100 days ago.

On Sunday, a number of activists began a hunger strike in solidarity with the detained journalist.

El-Shamy, along with hundreds of others, faces charges of terrorism and attempted murder.
