The Football Algerian Federation (FAF) suspended all football activities in the country this weekend after a Cameroonian football player, Albert Ebosse, died after being hit by a projectile thrown from the stands following his team's loss in the Algerian football championship on Saturday.
Under the helm of chairman Mohamed Raouraoua, FAF board members held a meeting on Sunday and decided to delay football activities scheduled for 29 and 30 August for an undisclosed date to mourn Ebosse's death.
The 24-year-old player – who joined JS Kabylie in 2013 and was the side's best scorer in the 2013-2014 championship – was declared dead after he was rushed to hospital in Tizi Ouzou, east of the capital Algiers, where the match took place on Saturday.
The federation also announced that it has taken steps to curb the recent displays of poor fan behaviour that have spread to stadiums throughout the country, such as a decision to suspend any team whose fans cause clashes in league play.
The FAF also announced that it agreed with JS Kabylie's management to pay $100,000 to Ebosse's family alongside the remaining fees in his contract.
