Egypt U-20 coach Diaa El-Sayed said he does not believe the notion of revenge exists in football after his side finished third in the African Youth Championship at the expense of Mali.
The young Pharaohs beat Mali 1-0 courtesy of a second-half goal from striker Mohamed Hamdy to clinch the bronze medal.
Mali had earlier beat Egypt with the same scoreline in the group stage despite playing with ten men for around 80 minutes.
“In football there is no revenge, only football. If it is what you call it, yes we have beaten Mali as well,” El-Sayed told CAFonline.com following Sunday’s match.
The former ENPPI coach is satisfied with the results Egypt produced in the tournament, which they last won in 2003.
“We are happy because we qualified for the World cup and also won the bronze medal. For me this is a positive result,” he added.
Egypt were drawn with Brazil, Austria and Panama in Group E of the World Cup, which will take place in Colombia in July and August.
