Nikkei rises 1.6 pct to post-quake high above 10,000

Reuters, Monday 2 May 2011

The benchmark Nikkei closed the day up 1.6 percent, or 154.46 points, at 10,004.20

Tokyo's Nikkei stock average on Monday closed above the closely watched 10,000 mark for the first time since March 11 -- the day of the country's devastating earthquake -- on optimism that Wall Street shares would rally after U.S. officials said al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had been killed.
