Egyptian mothers demonstrate demanding citizenship rights for their Palestinian children

Demonstration calling for equal rights of all Egyptian mothers, including those with Palestinian children, to pass on Egyptian citizenship to their offspring

Egyptian mothers of Palestinians demonstrated today at the Foreign Ministry, demanding that their children are given Egyptian citizenship rights.

The protestors complained that their children suffer a great deal without citizenship rights, especially when it comes to their residence papers and their education expenses.

A law issued in 2004 allowed Egyptian mothers to pass on citizenship to their children but excluded mothers of Palestinian children. Consequently, the demonstrators demanded that the law is equally applied to all.
